Status of EITI Implementation

Côte d'Ivoire was accepted as an EITI Candidate Country by the EITI Board on 7 May 2008.

The country now has until 8 May 2010 to undertake Validation.

On 15 May 2006 the Government of Côte d'Ivoire announced its endorsement of the EITI principles. A High Level Petroleum Committee was established in April 2006 but it did not foresee the participation of civil society. On 28 February 2008 the President of the Republic signed a Decree which created an implementation structure for the EITI in the country.

Meanwhile, on 29 January 2008, two inter-ministerial decisions had been signed to nominate the members of the EITI National Committee. Members were nominated by organisations which were approached by the Ivorian authorities in mid-January 2008 for this purpose. On 4 February 2008, the government, civil society and the industry officially launched the EITI National Committee, instituting its members as well as the EITI National Coordinator.

The budgeted work plan was adopted on 1 April 2008.
